Traverse City Resident Arrested for Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material


TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. The Michigan State Police (MSP) Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force is announcing the arrest of Derek A Tanner, 41, of Traverse City, for possession of child sexually abusive material.

The investigation was initiated when the Michigan Department of Corrections was investigating Tanner for a parole violation and discovered child sexually abusive material on his cell phone.

Derek Tanner was charged with one count of child sexually abusive activity – aggravated, one count of distributing sexually explicit visual or verbal matter to children, one count of disorderly person – obscene conduct and one count of using a computer to commit a crime. Tanner was arraigned in 86th District Court on Tuesday, November 16. Tanner was on parole during the time of the investigation and was subsequently returned to prison for a parole violation. The MSP ICAC Task Force was assisted by the Michigan State Police Cadillac Post and the Michigan Department of Corrections.
